The Permanent Health Care Centre Mural remains in the community of San Bartolomé Jocotenango as a reminder of hand washing with soap and water, and of the community's commitment to continue practising this behaviour.

Description of the Permanent Health Care Centre Mural

The drawings that resulted from the workshop held with children at the central school in San Bartolomé Jocotenango inspired this mural. Their silhouettes and colours - green, white, red, yellow and purple - represent bodies full of life, alluding to healthy children. he process of creating this mural, which addressed handwashing with soap and water at key moments, is part of the Social Art for Behaviour ChangeTM (SABC) interventions of the Lazos de Agua initiative in Guatemala.

Process of co-creation and implementation of the mural:

To connect with the majority of murals created for the municipality of San Bartolomé Jocotenango, it was proposed to include the silhouettes of a girl and a boy. On this occasion the silhouettes were constructed in mosaic of different colours. In each silhouette we find green, white, red, yellow and purple. They represent bodies full of life, full of colour.

Inauguration of the Mural of the Permanent Health Care Centre

The mosaic mural implementation process concludes with an inauguration event. To the rhythm of indigenous music, the Kumatz snake - traditional in the local culture - is mobilised and the community gathers to celebrate, exchange reflections and recommendations about what was learned during the process, and talk about ways to maintain at school and at home the practice of the behaviour addressed during the creation of this work of social art. The mural remains in the community as a reminder of handwashing with soap and water, and of the community's commitment to continue practising this behaviour.
